By the way, you may have noticed a bunch of weird stuff in your directory today, Adam...
I'm tinkering with WordPress right now since Nucleus development has pretty much stopped. WordPress has lots of stuff to control comment spam so we can open comments back up again... it also has a lot of other great admin features and its plugin architecture is very robust.
The hardest part is importing the existing posts from Nucleus. There aren't any scripts that will do it automatically (at least, none that work right now... all have serious problems). So I'm working on making a script that will export from Nucleus to the Movable Type format which can then be easily imported into WordPress.
I'll let you take a peek when it's done so you can decide if you want us to switch to it. It's pretty cool. I hope to have it working by Sunday.
02.04.05, 21:00:01 Cloudscout wrote:
I'd like to go on record right now as saying that Nucleus really, really sucks under the hood.
It uses some bizarre method of managing URLs in posts (both links and images) that makes it incredibly difficult to actually EXPORT the stupid information.
I can trick it into exporting just the posts themselves as nice, clean HTML by creating a separate template/skin but then we don't get any of the comments.
I found a PHP script that someone wrote a year ago that is supposed to export all posts and comments into a MovableType-friendly import file but I guess it was written for an older version of MT and Nucleus so I've been trying to rewrite the thing but I still can't get it to manage URLs correctly. I've found some other bits of code elsewhere that may help. We'll see.
02.04.05, 22:01:20 Cloudscout wrote:
Okay, I figured out most of it... but some of the images in posts still don't show up. Not sure how to fix it... or if it really even matters since 99% of the posts here have no images in them.
At any rate, I'll work on the style sheets for the WordPress blog and then Adam can decide if he wants to go that way or not.

Hymie played by Dick Gautier

Veteran's Day Today.
I did have the title named "Remember" but then I thought that was a bad title. Most of us -can't- remember--except for what we've read in books. The Gulf War we can. The current 'war' we can. But WWI, II, Vietnam and all the wars before and around that time--many of us can't.
So then I thought I would change it to 'Respect'. Because I think all of us want to respect our troops.
And then the song lyric from the song "Respect" came to me. And I thought it an appropriate, thought-provoking sentence.
Anyway... It's Veteran's Day. Do what you normally do to honor them.
